The operator identified a horizontal well candidate located in the DJ Basin, a geologic structured basin in Northern Colorado. The candidate was previously on a gas lift system that struggled to maintain injection due to excessive slugging. The APEX controller has advanced gas lift optimization features built-in, including downhole gauge management.
The introduction of gas-assisted plunger lift wells (GAPL) and plunger-assisted gas lift wells (PAGL) for cost-effectively extending the life cycle of the well and minimizing the gas injection requirements has plunger lift experiencing increased popularity as a lift option.
The main constraint in a gas lift system is a limitation on injection volume and surface injection pressure due to the packaging and compressor capabilities available. In an ideal world, the system would have unlimited injection gas volume and unlimited injection pressure.
At the Southwestern Petroleum Short Course Flowco Production Solutions announced the immediate availability of the APEX Multi-Well Controller, giving oil and gas operators a data-agnostic production technology to optimize their well pads for gas-lifted, plunger-lifted, and GAPL (gas-assisted-plunger-lift) assets.
In a lower oil price environment, the industry shifts its priorities from major capital projects such acquiring and drilling new assets to refocus on maximizing the value derived from operating existing wells. Leading North American oil and gas operator, Ovintiv Inc. (formerly Encana) has consistently focused well operations on hitting “type curve rates” or optimizing production rates against well-managed CAPEX parameters.
The absence of accurate and reliable data for artificial lift systems creates significant operational inefficiencies and puts artificial lift systems and the reservoir at risk, which could result in costly downtime. Lack of actionable information could also lead to wasted injection gas for gas-lifted assets, overall higher production costs, and non-optimized production rates.
Recently, Flowco Production Solutions opened a new gas lift manufacturing and warehousing facility in North Houston to better serve our US and Canada customer base. The new layout optimizes workflow and reduces work-in-process, allowing for better control and tracking of orders. This investment increased the facility’s overall footprint from 18,000 sf to over 35,000 sf, improved cleanliness and workflow, and increased production capacity. This growth allows us to better serve our customers.
